Were you honest today? We all value honesty, yet few of us actually tell the real truth about our lives? Were you honest with your colleagues? Friends? Family?
Yesterday I was reminded just how important honesty is – by someone I’ve never met.
This blog shares my journey of running the world but the real purpose is to inspire and motivate others to dream like a child again. To believe that you can achieve your dreams, no matter how difficult times are. Running is the vehicle to explore my limits and connect with the others. Most of all I try to be as honest as I can be, but actually I have barely scratched the surface of what I should really be talking about.
Yesterday someone shared something with me, that told me it is time to stop faffing about. Life is too short and lives are being wasted. Its time we let others see the honest to goodness truth of our lives, not the perfect image we too often portray. People all around us, in our community are silently suffering, and a simple act of honesty can make such a difference. Bare Naked Honesty can change lives! We don’t actually need to do anything, we just have to stop pretending its all perfect.
How often do we share the really difficult times, our challenging domestic difficulties, personal problems? No, I’m not suggesting we all dwell on the negative aspects of our lives. I’m suggesting we are honest with those around us, that we share difficult times without shame. We focus on becoming actively honest about shit that happens to us all. Let’s start to talk about the taboo subjects. If we let others know we’ve been there, maybe we can engage with the isolated colleagues, friends and family around us. Maybe, just maybe one person will realise they are not alone and they can take a positive step forward.
I believe one of the most important things we can do in life, if we really want to inspire others, is to be as actively honest as we can be. Total bare naked honesty helps remove the shame, it gives our colleagues, friends and family that glimmer of hope they need.
In March I am going to Run Naked to Czech Republic. No, I’m not going to be the first streaking granny! I will Run Naked for 400k from Germany to Czech Republic as I continue with my Run the World challenge.
Each day I will expose a taboo subject, I’ll talk honestly about an experience I’ve been through, one that is difficult, some might prefer I don’t mention, some might say it’s embarrassing, shameful even. But this is reality. My aim is to help others see that there is a way out, that there is no shame in trying to change your life for the better and pretending that life is perfect when it isn’t, is not going to fix it.
So lets encourage Bare Naked Honesty! Let’s engage with each other and show everyone there is no shame in being honest about difficult times. Talk to one another about how we have overcome obstacles and adversity, in doing so you can truly help others to realise that they are not alone, that they can move on. Let’s give others the confidence that their community, our community, understands and will support them.
Our community is everywhere: online, at work, at home, in our village, our street.
Let’s Run Naked in our Community!
